Beavers

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting family open to boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old. Beaver Scouts enjoy a wide range of activities such as outdoor pursuits, singing, playing games, crafts, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories, learning how to be safe and most importantly, making new friends.

Each term we try and cover a number of topics that build up towards being awarded badges. There are badges on many topics and over the year we try and balance the program over the core areas of beliefs and attitudes, personal challenges, teamwork, skills, global, outdoor and adventure. Most badges require Beavers to take part in 2-4 activities and these are often spread over several weeks. If your Beaver Scout misses a week or two don’t worry we normally make up for lost time at some point.

Although there is always an objective to an evening we try to keep Beavers as informal as possible and I hope your son/daughter will soon discover that we integrate as many games as possible into the theme of the evening.  We also spend several evenings out and about, especially in the warmer months- please keep an eye on the program for unusual meeting locations.

Occasionally during the year, there will be the option to join with other Beaver colonies and Scout groups in the area to take part in district events often on a Saturday or Sunday. In the past, these have included day trips to Swanage, The Winchester Science Centre, Fun days at the County Scout centre and Pantomimes as well as Beaver sleepovers and St Georges Day parades. Participation in these is entirely voluntary and for some, there will be an additional cost to cover coach travel etc.

How do I join Beavers?

If you would like your son or daughter to join the 3rd Salisbury Beaver colony please send us a message using the contact form on the right. We limit the colony size to a maximum of 24 and there is frequently a waiting list, so please put your name down early to avoid disappointment. We also welcome adults who would like to join as leaders or helpers. Please contact us to see how you can get involved!

Come and join the fun!
